Session ID: 200

Hadoop is one of the fastest growing platforms in the IT industry. Organizations are using Hadoop for many different applications, including marketing analytics, customer recommendations, and business trend reporting. Elastic Map Reduce (EMR) is a distribution of Hadoop that provides organizations with powerful tools and support for their Big Data operations - completely native to the AWS cloud. However, one of the big challenges for any Hadoop implementation is the ability to leverage existing data within Oracle Database. This session discusses strategies for implementing Apache Sqoop, a utility that allows for Oracle Database to be utilized as a data silo for an EMR environment.

Objective 1: Learn about the architecture and components of AWS Elastic Map Reduce.

Objective 2: Learn about the implementation of Apache Sqoop, and how to effectively configure the utility for Oracle Database and EMR.

Objective 3: Discover a powerful example use case of analyzing Seattle Education and Health data with EMR, while storing and maintaining it in Oracle Database.
