Automating and streamlining the tasks associated with software distribution and maintenance allows IT to accelerate and scale operations. A standardized approach to provision, patch and upgrade across all layers of software infrastructure improves predictability and control.
Rapid Home Provisioning (RHP) is a feature in Oracle Database 12c that allows for centralized software deployment. Software is installed once, stored on a cluster hosting the RHP service, and then provisioned to any node or cluster in the private cloud.
For patching, RHP minimizes impact by performing operations out-of-place, most of them online and rolling. A single command performs the entire operation and a simple switchback command is available in case problems arise. Upgrades are handled in a similar fashion.
By relieving the burdens of software maintenance, the IT organization can meet the demands of the scale and pace that cloud is bringing, and focus on innovative activities that bring the most business value.
Objective 1: Understand the different approaches for applying software maintenance, and see why the approach used with our solution provides the most reliable and lowest-risk business outcomes for provisioning and maintenance.
Objective 2: Review the key maintenance workflows of RHP and discuss their flexibility, resumability, and recovery.
Objective 3: Review business benefits achieved by RHP customers.
